With my current idea for my navigation system I have been looking at create something like Google Maps except for indoors. When looking at limitations it was pointed out in class today that Google Maps is updated regularly, so when there is roadworks or construction, Google Maps wont show this. This would be the same as at the Kelburn campus there is currently construction work going on which means the current route someone may have to take may be different to the way they would usually go, thus I think it would be a good idea if my navigation system updated regularly adjusting to different conditions limiting routes.
In class today we also came up with a collaborative idea on a navigation system. We came up with a system made of multiple elements. The main part is an app for smart phones which you enter in your route for and are given the time it takes and general information like that. It is also capable of telling you what clothes to wear as I suggested in a previous post. The app also had a game element as a fun alternative of learning your way around the campus, this would be like pinball and you have to get the ball to your destination (virtually). The game would also include notable land marks to aid recognition. Then for actual navigation a ring or watch is used which uses information from the phone via bluetooth which would have a needle which would point you in the right direction like a compass, but on a door to door basis type thing.
I think one thing that would be worth taking from this brainstorm would be the game idea, I think making it fun on top of functional would make for a very good app.
