Below I have made a rough sketch of a possible interface for my app. 

Since it is going to be designed for a smart phone I want to have as little buttons as possible. Currently I am looking at the app having three different options; voice, map and photographic view (like Google Street View).

For any of the buttons that do pop up I think I would have an arrow which you can press to hide it. This may be necessary as smart phone screens generally aren't that large.
